CGI - Common Gateway Interface

CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface. CGI allows HTML pages to interact with programming applications. It allows data to be transferred to and from a web page and a program on a web server. A typical use of CGI is in a submit reply operation for example online feedback or online forms.
